DTM DEM

Feature is viewed in 3d on two adjacent overlapping photographs creating an illusion of depth. When these images are looked at on a softcopy workstation personnel collect information from these photographs. All features such as roads, sidewalks, curbs, parking, buildings, fences, utilities features, water and vegetation are digitized and stored in a database. Each of these feature collected contains accurate horizontal and verticals coordinates. Because Measurments are collected in 3 dimension, the elevated data from these photographs can be used in the creation of a Digital Terrain Model (DTM) or Digital Elevated Model (DEM) to produce contours for topographic maps.

In the DTM, breaklines and mass points are used to repesent the terrain. Breaklines are area where there is a break or change in the slope of the terrain. These usually occur on ridgelines, valleys, top and bottom of slopes, waterlines, and developed areas such as roads, curbs, driveways, retaining walls, and other improvements that change the relief in the terrain. The DEM’s are colleted as mass points and are collected on a predetermined network covering the ground every 50’ to 100’ in the project limits. From these points and lines contours are generated. Software for elevated modeling allows contours to be displayed at any interval.
